Family Photographer Starkey Ranch, Florida
You moved here for the trails and the green space. That’s also what makes Starkey Ranch one of the easiest places in Pasco County to photograph a family. Good light is a four-minute walk from your driveway. Nobody has to be loaded into a car and driven forty minutes to a beach.
Where we shoot in Starkey Ranch
Starkey Ranch District Park is one of the best places around Pasco for family photographs. The trailhead for the community’s twenty-mile trail system. Lighted multi-purpose fields and open ground where kids can run flat out. The last ninety minutes before sunset across those fields is the best hour in the neighborhood.
Cunningham Park. Paved loop around the lake. Water behind you, birds working the shoreline, shade in stretches. Dog Paddle Park is here, so bring the dog if the dog is part of the family.
Homestead Park. Playground, pavilions, a smaller footprint. This is the one for a toddler and a short window before a nap.
The trail system. Twelve-plus miles of paved trail running through the community, connecting toward Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Preserve. The preserve is wilder — pine flatwoods, wide sand paths, a backdrop that looks like Florida instead of a backdrop. Ten minutes out and a completely different set of frames.
Your house. Front porch, back yard, kitchen floor. Underrated. With a newborn, or a kid who comes apart away from home, this is usually the right call.
How a session works
I don’t pose you. I give you something to do — walk the trail, sit down at the lake, chase the kids — and photograph what happens.
You get direction the whole way. Not “just be natural,” which is the least useful thing a photographer can say to a family. I tell you where to stand, what to do, and when to stop thinking about it.
Around the fifteen-minute mark everybody forgets the camera is there. That’s where the frames you’ll actually hang come from.
Sessions run sixty to ninety minutes.
You’re in the photos too
Most mothers hand me a phone and ask for one of the kids. You belong in the picture, not just behind it. Your kids will want to see you in these. Plan on being in them.

What to wear
Soft neutrals and earth tones. Clothes you can sit down and move in. Coordinate, don’t match. You get a full wardrobe guide after you book, and I’ll look at your outfits before the session if you want a second opinion.
Questions people ask
We just moved here. Do you know the area? Well enough. I shoot across Pasco County regularly. Before your session I’ll ask a few questions and pick the spot and the time that fit your family, not the spot that’s easiest for me.
What if my kids act up? Expect it. Wiggles, questions, at least one meltdown. The session is built around movement, not around getting everyone to behave.
How long until we see the photos? Mini sessions two weeks. Full family ten days. Multi-generational seven days.
What happens if the weather turns? We reschedule. No charge.
Do you shoot inside the house? Yes. Often the better choice with kids under three.
