Family Photographer in Clearwater Beach, FL

Clearwater-Coachman-Park

You're planning the trip. The condo's booked, somebody already bought matching swimsuits, and in a few weeks the whole family will be on the same beach at the same time — which happens about once a year if you're lucky. That's the photo. Book it before you get here, and one evening of your vacation becomes the picture that hangs in the hallway for the next twenty years.

I'm Jeff. I photograph families on Clearwater Beach and Sand Key at golden hour — the last stretch of light before sunset, when the Gulf does most of the work for me. I'm based about 30 minutes north in New Port Richey and shoot this coastline all season. Local families: you're covered too — your section is below.

What a session is actually like

No stiff lineups. No forced smiles. We meet on the sand about an hour before sunset, I run simple games with the little ones, and you get to just be together while I catch what happens. Kids think they're playing on the beach. They are. The camera is my problem, not theirs.

I've been a grandfather of five for a while — I know how kids actually behave, and I'm not standing around waiting for compliance. The "difficult" ones are usually in my best frames.

Built around a vacation, not a studio calendar

Booking photos in a town you don't live in shouldn't be complicated:

  1. Before your trip — send me your travel dates. I'll tell you which evening has the best light and we'll lock it in.
  2. One evening, about an hour — we meet on the sand, photos happen, you're back in time for dinner.
  3. After you're home — your gallery arrives online, ready to download and print.

Weather: Gulf storms roll through and leave. If your evening washes out, we move to the next clear evening of your stay — that's why I ask for your dates, not just one date. No rebooking fee.

Where we shoot

Sand Key Park — my go-to, and here's the local knowledge you're paying for: it's the south end of the same Clearwater Beach sand, with the same Gulf sunset — minus the Pier 60 crowds, with easier parking and cleaner backgrounds. You get the Clearwater Beach photo without strangers in it.

Clearwater Beach (main strip) — if you want the classic postcard backdrop, we can absolutely shoot it. Busier, but iconic. Your call.

For local families — I also shoot Coachman Park on the downtown waterfront, Crest Lake Park (my pick for young kids — quieter, shaded, less competing for their attention), Moccasin Lake Nature Park for the wooded Florida look, and Safety Harbor Waterfront Park under the big oaks on Tampa Bay. If you live here and want something that doesn't read as a beach session, that's the list.

What to wear on the beach

Simple. Two or three colors that get along — soft blues, sand tones, white done sparingly. No logos, no neon, no brand-new outfits nobody's broken in. Barefoot works; the beach already decided that. I help every family with wardrobe before the session, so don't overthink it now.

Do you shoot on Clearwater Beach itself? Yes — both the main beach and Sand Key, which is the same sand at the south end with fewer crowds. I'll point you to whichever fits your group.

We're only in town for a week. How does booking work? Send your travel dates before your trip. We pick the best evening, and if weather interferes we slide to the next clear one during your stay.

When's the best time for photos on Clearwater Beach? The last 60–90 minutes before sunset. The Gulf Coast light in that window is the reason people drive from Tampa for beach sessions. Early morning works too, especially in summer.

What if my kids won't cooperate? Expected. Sessions are built around real movement and moments, not compliance.

How far in advance should I book? As soon as you have dates. October through April fills fast, and golden hour is one slot per evening.

Can you handle a big group? Yes — extended family and multi-generation groups are half of what I do. Tell me the headcount when you reach out.

One evening. One beach. Everyone in the frame. Send me your travel dates and let's pick your evening.
