Most of my Trinity sessions happen at Starkey Ranch or Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park. I’ve shot enough families at both to know which one fits which family, and what time of day to book you for.

Starkey Ranch

Paved trails, open fields, a lake. If you’ve got a stroller, a toddler who just started walking, or grandparents in the group, this is the easier location to move through. The trails mean nobody’s picking through brush or worrying about footing.

Afternoon light here is the best part. The open fields catch it straight on, so I usually book Starkey Ranch sessions two to three hours before sunset. Fewer families does mean fewer places to hide the parking lot in the background, so I steer you toward the sections that keep it out of frame.

Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park

Bigger, wilder, and it doesn’t look staged. Wide paths cut through pine flatwoods — this is what Florida actually looks like before somebody landscapes it. If your family spends real time outdoors, or you want photos that don’t look like every other family’s photos, this is the one.

More ground to cover than Starkey Ranch. Good for families with older kids who can walk further, or anyone who wants a more remote feel. Same light rules apply: afternoon session, timed to hit golden hour before we’re done.

Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park and Green Key Beach

Both about 25 minutes out. If you want water — springs, coastline, sand instead of trails — these are the options. Completely different look from Starkey Ranch and Jay B. Starkey. Worth the drive if the beach is part of how your family actually spends time together, not just a backdrop you saw on Instagram.

How the Session Runs

Kids don’t cooperate on command. I’ve known that for years, so I don’t ask them to. You walk, they run, I follow and shoot. The forced smiles never happen because I never ask for them.

Sessions run 60 to 90 minutes. We move through the location, I keep it loose, and by the end you’ve stopped noticing the camera. That’s usually when the best frames show up — not in the first ten minutes when everyone’s still posing for me in their head.

**Which location should we pick?**

Starkey Ranch if you’ve got a stroller, young toddlers, or want easy walking with lake views. Jay B. Starkey if your family is comfortable outdoors and you want a wilder, more Florida look. Werner-Boyce or Green Key if water matters more to you than trails.

**What time of day do you shoot?**

Afternoon, timed to end around sunset. That’s when the light works at all four locations. I’ll give you a start time based on the date of your session.

**What happens if it rains?**

We reschedule. Florida afternoon storms are common enough that I build flexibility into booking — I’m not shooting your family in a downpour and neither of us wants those photos.

**How much does a family session cost?**

**Do I need to plan poses?**

Outfits, yes — I’ll tell you what works at these locations. Poses, no. I don’t pose families. I put you somewhere and let things unfold.

**How far will we walk?**

At Starkey Ranch, not far — the paved trails keep it easy. At Jay B. Starkey, plan on more ground. If walking distance is a concern for anyone in your group, tell me before we book and I’ll pick the spot accordingly.
