Odessa sits between Tampa’s suburban spread and Pasco County’s open land. You have options on both ends — manicured community parks with easy logistics, and real nature with genuine visual interest.

Lake Rogers Conservation Park

The most photogenic family photo location in Odessa. 272 acres of pine flatwoods and oak hammocks with a 0.3-mile boardwalk through cypress, maple, and oak trees, plus a 2.25-mile trail system. The lake draws wading birds, bald eagles, and osprey regularly.

That last detail matters for photography. When kids have something to watch and point at — a heron standing at the water’s edge, an eagle overhead — they stop thinking about the camera. Those are the moments that produce real expressions instead of posed ones.

The boardwalk through the cypress canopy is the standout location here. Filtered light, water underneath, natural texture in every direction. It photographs differently than a typical park and it shows in the final images.

Best times: Early morning or golden hour. The trail runs through tree cover, so you have a little more timing flexibility than you would at an open park.

Best for: Families who want a nature-forward look. Kids who do well when they have things to explore.

Starkey Ranch District Park

On the Odessa and Wesley Chapel border. Wide paved trails, open green space, good park facilities. Not dramatic scenery — but clean, accessible, and easy to navigate with young kids. The right choice if your priority is a low-stress session over a visually distinctive location.

Best for: Families with toddlers, or anyone who needs the session logistics to be as simple as possible.

I shoot throughout Hillsborough and Pasco Counties. Location scouting is part of what I do — reach out before you book and we can figure out what actually fits your family.
